Veins of face and scalp (Anterior view: superficial) (Latin)

Veins of face and scalp (Anterior view: superficial) (Latin)

Superficial venous drainage of the face is mainly achieved through tributaries from the v. retromandibularis and v. facialis. The vv. temporales superficiales pass laterally from the regio temporalis over the arcus zygomaticus and enter the gl. parotidea. Within the gl. parotidea, the vv. temporales superficiales join with the vv. maxillares to form the v. retromandibularis. The vv. temporales superficiales drain the muscles and skin of the regio temporalis. The v. facialis profunda drains the anterior aspect of the plexus venosus pterygoideus to the v. facialis, while the vv. labiales inferiores courses laterally along the lower lip, draining structures of this region into the v. facialis. The v. retromandibularis and v. facialis extend inferiorly and drain to the v. jugularis interna.
