Superficial muscles of the back (Latin)

Superficial muscles of the back (Latin)

Overview of the mm. superficiales dorsi showing their attachment points on the bones of the trunk and upper limb. The m. trapezius and m. latissimus dorsi muscles are the largest members of this group and cover most of the back with the exception of the scapular region (regio scapularis). Deep to them are the smaller members of the superficial layer (m. levator scapulae, m. rhomboid major, m. rhomboid minor). The mm. serrati posteriores (superior/inferior) belong to the intermediate layer. In addition, a few of the mm. suboccipitales can also be observed along the occipitocervical junction.
