Posterior leg (crus) and fossa poplitea, with the a. poplitea and rete articulare genus supplying the art. talocruralis (knee joint) and related structures. Arterial blood to the posterior leg (crus) is provided by the a. tibialis posterior, a continuation of the a. poplitea which gives off the a. fibularis as it descends. It enters the foot (pes) by passing posterior to the malleolus medialis, after which it terminates as the aa. plantaris medialis et lateralis.Accompanying the a. tibialis posterior is the n. tibialis. This large terminal branch of the n. ischiadicus descends the fossa poplitea and passes into the posterior leg (crus) to sit deep to the mm. gastrocnemius et soleus, supplying all the muscles in the ​​compartimentum posterius cruris. The n. tibialis then travels just posterior to the malleolus medialis to terminate in the foot (pes) as nn. plantares. The vv. saphena magna et parva ascend the posteromedial and lateral aspects, respectively, these work alongside the deep and centrally located vv. tibialis posterior to drain venous blood from the leg (crus).
