Nerves of orbit (Superior view) (Latin)

Nerves of orbit (Superior view) (Latin)

The n. opticus (CN II) is purely sensory and transmits visual impulses from the bulbus oculi to the brain. The n. trochlearis (CN IV) and n. abducens (CN VI) enter the orbita through the fissura orbitalis superior to supply the mm. externi bulbi oculi. The ganglion ciliare is one of the four parasympathetic ganglia of the head and receives preganglionic parasympathetic fibers from the nucleus accessorius nervi oculomotorii via the n. oculomotorius (CN III). It supplies structures of the eye (m. ciliaris and m. sphincter pupillae) via the nn. ciliares breves with parasympathetic, sensory and sympathetic fibers, which also pass through the ganglion.
