Muscles of the abdominal wall (English)
Muscles of the abdominal wall (English)
The external abdominal oblique muscle has been removed to allow an appreciation of the internal abdominal oblique on the left side of the image. The internal abdominal oblique muscle is composed of superomedially orientated fibers which become aponeurotic before inserting along the length of the linea alba. The rectus abdominis muscle is defined by three or four tendinous straps which divide the muscle into segments, present on either side of the linea alba. The horizontal fibers of the transversus abdominis muscle can be seen coursing deep to the rectus abdominis in its superior three-quarters, while passing anterior to it below a landmark known as the arcuate line.
