Mandible (Posterior view) (Latin)

Mandible (Posterior view) (Latin)

The internal surface of the corpus, angulus and ramus mandibulae can be seen from this posterior view. The midline of the internal surface of the corpus mandibulae presents with two bony indentations known as the fovea sublingualis and fovea submandibularis. These structures house the gl. sublingualis and gl. submandibularis, respectively. The spinae mentales (superior and inferior) are small midline processes on the corpus mandibulae which act as an attachment site for the m. genioglossus. Along the basis mandibulae is a bilateral rough, shallow depression known as the fossa digastrica which serves as an origin site for the venter anterior musculi digastrici. The internal surface of the angulus mandibulae presents with a roughening for the attachment of the m. pterygoideus medialis, known as the tuberositas pterygoidea.
