El principal ramo nervioso del plexo sacro es el nervio ciático. Este es el nervio más largo del cuerpo humano e inerva toda la piel de la pierna y músculos de la porción posterior del muslo, pierna y pie. En su parte terminal, el nervio ciático se divide en nervio tibial y nervio fibular común, que inerva los compartimientos posterior y anterolateral de la pierna, respectivamente.
