Lingual papillae (Latin)

Lingual papillae (Latin)

This overview picture illustrates layers and papillae of the tongue. The unique shapes of the four lingual papillae can be seen. The papillae vallatae are separated from their walls by the sulcus of papilla. In addition to this, the glandulae gustatoriae, also known as “von Ebner’s glands”, are located deep to the papillae vallatae. The glandulae radicis linguae are located in the root of the tongue. Above the glandulae radicis linguae, the tonsilla lingualis is illustrated.
