Larynx: anterior view (Latin)
The cartilago thyroidea is the largest of the laryngeal cartilages and presents broad flat right and left halves of hyaline cartilage which fuse anteriorly in the midline to form the prominentia laryngea, commonly called the ‘Adam’s apple’. The cartilago thyroidea is attached superiorly to the os hyoideum via the membrana thyrohyoidea. Directly below the cartilago thyroidea lies the cartilago cricoidea, a ring-shaped hyaline cartilage which is connected to the trachea inferiorly.
