Gallbladder (English)

Gallbladder (English)

The gallbladder is a small pear-shaped sac, which can be subdivided into four anatomical parts: fundus, body, infundibulum and neck. It is located on the inferior aspect of the right lobe of the liver. The gallbladder empties its contents via the cystic duct, which joins with the common hepatic duct from the liver to form the bile duct. The bile duct extends into the pancreas, where it joins the main pancreatic duct to form the hepatopancreatic ampulla (ampulla of Vater). This short duct then empties into the duodenum via the major duodenal papilla.
