External ear: coronal section (Latin)

External ear: coronal section (Latin)

The auricula is an irregularly shaped cartilaginous structure covered by a thin layer of skin. It is continuous with the meatus acusticus externus, a bony-cartilaginous, tubular component of the auris externa. The lateral one third of the meatus is cartilaginous, while its medial two-thirds are osseous (os temporale). The meatus acusticus externus terminates with the membrana tympanica (eardrum) which is connected to the ossicula auditus of the auris media.
