Ethmoid bone (superior and lateral views) (English)

Ethmoid bone (superior and lateral views) (English)

The superior view allows the appreciation of one of the most unique landmarks of the ethmoid bone: the cribriform plate. The cribriform plate is split into left and right halves by the crista galli. The plate shows multiple openings through which the fibers of the olfactory nerve (CN I) pass. The fibers converge into the olfactory bulbs, each resting on the respective surfaces of the cribriform plate. The lateral view provides a better visualization of the perpendicular plate. It forms a part of the nasal septum and articulates with the vomer.
