Elbow joint sagittal view (English)

Elbow joint sagittal view (English)

The elbow joint is enveloped in an articular capsule composed of an outer fibrous layer and lined internally by a synovial membrane. During movement (flexion and extension), the fat pads are pulled away by the tendinous attachments of the brachialis and triceps brachii muscles to allow space for bony processes. Extension of the elbow is facilitated by the olecranon bursa which serves as a lubricating component between the olecranon of the ulna and the overlying skin.
