Ankle joint: Lateral view (Latin)
Ankle joint: Lateral view (Latin)
Similarly to the lig. collaterale mediale, the lig. collaterale laterale is a strong compound ligament that reinforces the lateral aspect of the art. talocruralis (ankle joint). The ligament has a proximal attachment on the fibula, and a distal attachment on the talus and calcaneus. The lig. collaterale laterale is comprised of three distinct bands: the lig. talofibulare anterius and lig. talofibulare posterius, that extend between the fibula and talus, as well as the lig. calcaneofibulare, that extends between the fibula and calcaneus.
