Veins of pterygopalatine fossa (English)
Veins of pterygopalatine fossa (English)
The main venous structure seen in the pterygopalatine fossa is the pterygoid venous plexus. This plexus drains to multiple different venous structures: posteriorly to the greater palatine vein, that accompanies the course of the maxillary artery; anteroinferiorly to the facial and deep facial veins; and medially to the cavernous sinus, which is an intracranial venous structure located adjacent to the sella turcica.
