Superficial muscles of the back (English)

Superficial muscles of the back (English)

Overview of the superficial muscles of the back showing their attachment points on the bones of the trunk and upper limb. The trapezius and latissimus dorsi muscles are the largest members of this group and cover most of the back with the exception of the scapular region. Deep to them are the smaller members of the superficial layer (levator scapulae, rhomboid major and minor muscles). The serratus posterior superior and inferior muscles belong to the intermediate layer. In addition, a few of the suboccipital muscles can also be observed along the occipitocervical junction.
