El nervio nasociliar surge del ramo oftálmico (V1) del nervio trigémino y discurre oblicuamente hacia adelante a través de la órbita. A lo largo de su recorrido da origen a los nervios ciliares largos (no visibles en la imagen), etmoidal posterior y anterior e infratroclear. El nervio nasociliar transmite la sensibilidad de la piel del dorso de la nariz, párpados, conjuntiva medial, membranas de las celdillas etmoidales, seno esfenoidal y porciones de la cavidad nasal. También transporta fibras simpáticas que proporcionan fibras sensitivas a la esclera, córnea, iris y cuerpo ciliar a través del ganglio ciliar.
