Nerves of orbit (Lateral view: eyeball removed) (Latin)

Nerves of orbit (Lateral view: eyeball removed) (Latin)

The n. nasociliaris arises from the n. ophthalmicus (CN V1) and runs obliquely forward through the orbita. Along the way it gives off the nn. ciliares longi (not shown), n. ethmoidalis posterior and n. ethmoidalis anterior and n. infratrochlearis. The n. nasociliaris conveys sensation from the skin of the dorsum nasi, palpebrae, medial tunica conjunctiva, membranes of the cellulae ethmoidales, sinus ossis sphenoidalis and portions of the cavitas nasi. It also transmits sympathetic fibers which supply sensory fibers to the sclera, cornea, iris and corpus ciliare through the ganglion ciliare.
