Middle ear: coronal section (Latin)

Middle ear: coronal section (Latin)

The middle ear (auris media) consists of the cavitas tympani, a narrow space located in the pars petrosa ossis temporalis. It contains three ossicula auditus (malleus, incus and stapes) which are suspended via small ligamenta ossicularia and regulate the transmission of sound from the external environment to the internal ear (auris intera). The paries jugularis/floor of the cavitas tympani features the ostium pharyngeum of the tuba auditiva, a part osseous-part cartilaginous conduit which links the cavitas tympani with the nasopharynx.
