Ligaments of the wrist and hand: Dorsal view (Latin)

Ligaments of the wrist and hand: Dorsal view (Latin)

From this posterior view, the ligg. intercarpea interossea are visible. These ligaments lie within the joint capsule and provide stability to the artt. interossea. The ligg. intercarpea interossea include the ligg. scapholunatum interosseum, lunotriquetrum interosseum, trapeziotrapezoideum interosseum, trapezoideocapitatum interosseum and the capitohamatum interosseum. Located between the ligg. metacarpea dorsalia and palmaria are the ligg. metacarpea interossea. These ligaments stretch between adjacent ossa metacarpi aiding in stabilizing movement. The ligg. metacarpea dorsalia of metacarpals 2-4 are composed of two ligaments each which each attach to the base of the metacarpals. Similar to its palmar counterpart, the 5th metacarpal has only one lig. metacarpeum dorsale.
