Ligaments of the foot (plantar view) (Latin)

Ligaments of the foot (plantar view) (Latin)

Right foot with lig. plantare longum removed. The major ligg. plantaria are the lig. calcaneonaviculare plantare, the lig. plantare longum and lig. calcaneocuboideum plantare (a.k.a lig. plantare breve). The latter of these extends between the anterior part of the facies plantaris calcanei to the facies plantaris ossis cuboidei. It functions to stabilize the pars calcaneocuboidea of the art. transversa tarsi and supports the pars lateralis arcus longitudinalis pedis. Several smaller ligg. intertarsalia plantaria can be seen between the os cuboideum, os naviculare and ossa cuneiformia. The ligg. tarsometatarsea plantaria stabilize the articulations between the ossa cuneiformia and os cuboideum with the bases of the ossa metatarsi. The artt. metatarsophalangeae/interphalangeae are strengthened by tight ligg. collateralia, which prevent excessive range of movement in these joints.
