Larynx: anterior view (English)

Larynx: anterior view (English)

The thyroid cartilage is the largest of the laryngeal cartilages and presents broad flat right and left halves of hyaline cartilage which fuse anteriorly in the midline to form the laryngeal prominence, commonly called the ‘Adam’s apple’. The thyroid cartilage is attached superiorly to the hyoid bone via the thyrohyoid membrane. Directly below the thyroid cartilage lies the cricoid cartilage, a ring-shaped hyaline cartilage which is connected to the trachea inferiorly.
