Liene Znotina

Knee joint: Intracapsular ligaments and menisci (posterior view) (Latin)

Knee joint: Intracapsular ligaments and menisci (posterior view) (Latin)

Right knee, capsule removed. The ligg. cruciata genus extend between the fossa intercondylaris femoris and area intercondylares tibiae, crossing each other to form an ‘X’ shape (cross: Latin = crux). The lig. cruciatum posterius is the shorter, thicker and stronger of the pair. They function to stabilize the art. genus by resisting translation of the femur on the tibia and preventing hyperflexion/hyperextension.
