Female urinary bladder (Latin)

Female urinary bladder (Latin)

A coronal section of the female urinary bladder (vesica urinaria feminina) and urethra. This section displays the corpus vesicae, fundus vesicae and cervix vesicae as well as the main internal features of the urinary bladder: the trigonum vesicae, left and right ostia ureteresis, and plica interureterica. The urethra feminina begins as a continuation of the cervix vesicae at the ostium internum urethrae and terminates as the ostium externum urethrae femininae. The urethra is located just anterior to the vagina and is surrounded by the m. sphincter externus urethrae femininae along its proximal two-thirds. Distally, it is encircled by a muscular sling formed by the m. compressor urethrae as well as the m. sphincter urethrovaginalis (not shown).
