Cranial fossae (Latin)

The fossa anterior cranii is the anteriormost area of the cranial floor, formed by the facies orbitalis ossis frontalis, lamina cribrosa ossis ethmoidalis and part of the ala minor ossis sphenoidei. The fossa media cranii is composed of the corpus and ala major ossis sphenoidalis, as well as the squama temporalis and anterior surface of pars petrosa ossis temporalis. The fossa posterior cranii is formed by the posterior surface of pars petrosa ossis temporalis and os occipitale.
