Atypical ribs (Latin)

Atypical ribs (Latin)

The costae atypicae (1, 2, 10-12) also have a caput/collum/corpus costae, however they differ by their morphology and/or unique landmarks (e.g. attachment points for m. subclavius/mm. scaleni and sulci for the vasa subclavia (costa 1), tuberositas musculi serrati anterioris (costa 2)). Costae 11/12 are more slender than the other costae and lack several of the typical landmarks seen on the costae typicae. For example, these costae don’t have a collum/tuberculum costae, and only have one facies articularis on the caput costae since they articulate with only one vertebra.
