Arteries and veins of orbit (Superior view) (Latin)

Arteries and veins of orbit (Superior view) (Latin)

The a. centralis retinae arises from the a. ophthalmica and courses alongside the n. opticus within its vagina externa/duralis, to supply the inner layers of the retina of the bulbus oculi. The aa. ciliares posteriores longae and aa. ciliares posteriores breves extend anteriorly and supply the choroid, corpus ciliare and iris of the bulbus oculi. The a. supraorbitalis arises from the a. ophthalmica as it passes medially and crosses the n. opticus in the orbital cavity. It supplies some of the muscles of the eye as well as the skin and muscles of the forehead via rr. superficiales/profundi. The a. ethmoidalis anterior and a. ethmoidalis posterior arise from the a. ophthalmica within the cavitas orbitae and pass medially to enter the canales ethmoidales. They supply the cavitas nasi and septum nasi. Venous drainage of the superior orbital region is mainly carried out by the v. ophthalmica superior and its associated tributaries. It accompanies the a. ophthalmica along its course, passing through the fissura orbitalis superior to reach the sinus cavernosus.
