Veins of face and scalp (Anterior view: deep) (Latin)
Veins of face and scalp (Anterior view: deep) (Latin)
The main vein draining the face is the v. facialis, which receives various tributaries that run a similar course to the arteries and are therefore identically named. The v. facialis originates at the lower margin of the orbit as a continuation of the v. angularis, which is formed by the junction of the v. supratrochlearis and v. supraorbitalis. The v. facialis courses inferolaterally, directly posterior to the a. facialis. It receives the v. labialis superior, v. labialis inferior and v. facialis profunda as tributaries, and terminates by draining into the v. jugularis interna.
