Typical vertebra (Latin)

The vertebrae of each region have common anatomical features which help in distinguishing them one from another. Nevertheless, all vertebrae share a number of common/general features.The large cylindrical part located anteriorly is the corpus vertebrae which is separated above and below from adjacent vertebral bodies by fibrocartilaginous disci intervertebrales. The posterior part of the vertebra is the arcus vertebrae, which is formed by two pediculi (one on either side) and two laminae that complete the arch posteriorly.The corpus and arcus vertebrae of each vertebrae enclose a space called the foramen vertebrale. Several projections, or processus, extend from the arch. Each vertebra has a processus spinosus extending posteriorly on the midline, two processus transversi extending laterally, two processus articulares superiores, and two processus articulares inferiores. Each processus articularis bears a facies articularis for articulation with the adjacent vertebra.
