Talus (Superior and inferior view) (Latin)
Talus (Superior and inferior view) (Latin)
The os tali consists of three parts: a head (caput), neck (collum) and body (corpus). The caput ossis tali is the most distal part and presents the facies articularis navicularis. The inferior aspect of the caput ossis tali features facies articularis calcanea anterior and facies articularis calcanea medialis, which articulate with corresponding facets on the calcaneus. Proximal to the head is the collum ossis tali. The superior surface of the collum ossis tali is unremarkable while the inferior surface of the collum ossis tali contains a deep trough known as the sulcus ossis tali. The most proximal and largest part of the talus is the corpus ossis tali. The most prominent feature on the superior surface of the corpus ossis tali is the trochlea ossis tali which contains the saddle-shaped facies superior. The facies superior articulates with the facies articularis inferior tibiae contributing to the formation of the art. talocruralis. The posterior aspect of the corpus ossis tali contains the processus posterior ossis tali bearing the tuberculum mediale and laterale which are separated by the sulcus tendinis musculi flexoris hallucis longi.
