Surface anatomy of the spleen (English)
Surface anatomy of the spleen (English)
The spleen has two surfaces: visceral and diaphragmatic. The convex diaphragmatic surface faces the diaphragm and is shown on the upper half of the image, while the lower half represents the visceral surface of the spleen. The hilum is located centrally on the visceral surface with the splenic vessels (splenic artery and vein) surrounded by the gastrosplenic and splenorenal ligaments. The visceral surface also bears three impressions, named by the structures directly in contact with them: these are the gastric, colic, and renal impressions.
