Longitudinal section through the male urogenital tract showing the structural com…ponents of the penis and the male urethra. Urine enters the intramural/preprostatic part of the male urethra through the internal urethral sphincter and is transported towards the external urethral orifice at the end of the glans penis. Prostatic fluid enters the prostatic part of the urethra via the prostatic ductules and semen from the testes via the opening of the ejaculatory duct. Bulbourethral glands secrete lubricating mucus into the spongy part of the urethra just proximal to the ampulla and navicular fossa of the urethra.
