Medial view of the left lung (English)
Medial view of the left lung (English)
The medial aspect of the left and right lung share some similarities and therefore the previous caption also applies here. Features unique to the left lung include the lingula of the lung and the cardiac notch. The lingula is a tongue-like projection arising from the superior lobe of the left lung. It is formed by the two lingular bronchopulmonary segments of the superior lobe of the left lung. Due to its positioning, the left lung presents with a concavity along its anterior border to accommodate the heart. This concavity is resultingly known as the cardiac notch. The most prominent impression seen on the medial surface of the left lung is the cardiac impression.
