Female pelvic viscera and perineum (Latin)
Female pelvic viscera and perineum (Latin)
Parasagittal section of the female pelvis and perineum (right view) with parts of the right pelvic wall, fascia, ovary (ovarium) and other structures removed to show the relations of the female pelvic organs. The urinary bladder (vesica urinaria) is located anteriorly, just behind the os pubis, with the distal stump of the pars pelvica ureteris dextri at its base. The uterus sits between the vesica urinaria and the rectum and shows stumps of the ligamentum proprium ovarii dexter, tuba uterina, and ligamentum teres uteri. The vagina extends from the regio cervicalis inferior uteri and opens into the perineum at the vaginal orifice (ostium vaginae). The terminal part of the colon sigmoideum continues distally as the rectum, both of which are located in the posterior aspect of the pelvic cavity (cavitas pelvis), anterior to the sacrum and coccyx.
