Brodmann areas (medial view) (English)

Brodmann areas seen on the medial surface of the frontal lobe are mostly continuations of those seen on the lateral surface (areas 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11). In addition, there are two areas seen only on the medial view (areas 24 and 32) that correspond to the cingulate cortex (i.e. limbic cortex). The medial view of the parietal lobe shows Brodmann area 5 (somatosensory association cortex) involved in the perception of space. Areas 23 and 31 are continuous with areas 24 and 32 of the frontal lobe, and also correspond to the cingulate cortex. The occipital lobe contains three important areas which are areas 17, 18 and 19, all involved in visual stimuli processing (primary, secondary and associative visual cortex). Areas on the medial surface of the temporal lobe are area 27 (located in the piriform cortex) involved in the perception of smell, areas 35 and 36 (perirhinal cortex) involved in memory processing.
