Arteries of the large intestine (English)
Arteries of the large intestine (English)
The large intestine is supplied mainly by branches of the superior mesenteric, inferior mesenteric and internal iliac arteries. The superior mesenteric artery supplies the cecum, ascending colon and a part of the transverse colon. The inferior mesenteric artery supplies the terminal part of the transverse colon, the descending colon and the superior part of the rectum. Finally, the internal iliac artery supplies the last part of rectum. The branches of these arteries anastomose close to the large intestine, forming the marginal artery of colon.
