Gallbladder (Latin)
Gallbladder (Latin)
The gallbladder (vesica biliaris) is a small pear-shaped sac, which can be subdivided into four anatomical parts: fundus, corpus, infundibulum and collum. It is located on the inferior aspect of the right lobe of the liver (lobus dexter hepatis). The gallbladder empties its contents via the ductus cysticus, which joins with the ductus hepaticus communis from the liver (hepar) to form the ductus biliaris. The ductus biliaris extends into the pancreas, where it joins the ductus pancreaticus to form the ampulla hepatopancreatica (ampulla of Vater). This short duct then empties into the duodenum via the papilla major duodeni.
