The systema cardiovasculare is divided into two major circuits: pulmonary and sys…temic. The pulmonary circuit begins in the ventriculus dexter of the heart (cor) by carrying the deoxygenated blood into the lungs (pulmones) for gaseous exchange and ends by bringing oxygenated blood from the lungs into the atrium of the heart. The distribution of the blood to the body starts via a systemic circuit that begins with the ventriculus sinister of the heart, which pumps blood via the aorta and systemic arteries to the capillary beds of peripheral tissues and organs. Deoxygenated blood is then drained by the venae systemicae of the circuit to the venae cavea superior and inferior which empty their contents back into the atrium dexter of the heart.
