Superior view of the female pelvis: Organs and vessels (Latin)

The urinary bladder (vesica urinaria)(opened and retracted) is situated posterior the anterior pelvic wall. Immediately posterior to it is the uterus (corpus uteri removed, with only the cervix remaining). Finally, in the posterior part of the cavitas pelvis is the rectum. This superior view also allows the appreciation of the distribution of the vessels in the cavitas pelvis. The arteries of this area stem mainly from the a. iliaca interna and a. iliaca externa, which are shown bifurcating from the a. iliaca communis. The a. iliaca interna supplies the pelvic walls and organs, as well as the gluteal and medial thigh regions of the lower limb. The a. iliaca externa provides arterial supply to the lower abdominal wall (via the a. epigastrica inferior and a. circumflexa iliaca profunda); it passes beneath the lig. inguinale, where it becomes the a. femoris (main artery of the lower limb).
