Nerves of the hand: Palmar view (Latin)

Motor innervation to the hand is supplied by the nn. medianus and ulnaris. The n. radialis only contributes to its cutaneous innervation. The n. ulnaris gives off a r. palmaris in the distal forearm before bifurcating into a r. superficialis and r. profundus when it reaches the hand. The r. superficialis nervi ulnaris nerve gives off a r. digitalis palmaris communis and a r. digitalis palmaris digiti minimi. The r. digitalis palmaris communis further bifurcates to form the rr. digitales palmares proprii which supply the adjoining sides of the ring and little fingers. Therefore, the n. ulnaris provides sensory innervation to the medial one third of the palm of the hand and palmar surfaces of medial one and a half digits. As the n. medianus enters the hand it divides into a r. palmaris, r. recurrens and rr. digitales palmares communes. The rr. digitales palmares communes divide into rr. digitales palmares propriae to supply the thumb through middle fingers and radial aspect of the ring finger. The n. medianus provides sensory innervation to the lateral two thirds of the palm of the hand and the palmar surface and dorsal distal one third of the lateral three and a half digits.
