Muscles of the hand: Overview (Latin)

Aside from the classification into 3 groups, the muscles of the hand can also be divided into 5 groups, namely the compartimenti thenaris, adductorium, hypothenaris, centralis and interossea. The compartimentum thenaris contains the short musculi of the thumb (pollex) and include the m. abductor brevis pollicis , m. flexor brevis pollicis, and m. opponens pollicis. The compartimentum adductorium contains the m. adductor pollicis. The compartimentum hypothenaris includes the m. abductor digiti minimi manus, m. flexor digiti minimi manus, m. opponens digiti minimi, and m. palmaris brevis. The compartimentum centralis contains the 4 mm. lumbricales, which are found between the ossa metacarpea and attach proximally to the tendi flexor profundus digitorum . The compartimentum interossea contain either the mm. interossei dorsales (4), which are small musculi found between the ossa metacarpea on the dorsal surface of the manus, or the mm. interossei palmares (3), which represent their palmar counterparts.
