Muscles of the abdominal wall (Latin)
Muscles of the abdominal wall (Latin)
The m. obliquus externus abdominis has been removed to allow an appreciation of the m. obliquus internus abdominis on the left side of the image. The m. obliquus internus abdominis is composed of superomedially orientated fibers which become aponeurotic before inserting along the length of the linea alba. The m. rectus abdominis muscle is defined by three or four tendinous straps which divide the muscle into segments, present on either side of the linea alba. The horizontal fibers of the m. transversus abdominis muscle can be seen coursing deep to the m. rectus abdominis in its superior three-quarters, while passing anterior to it below a landmark known as the linea arcuata.
