Muscles of facial expression (Latin)

The largest group consisting of 11 muscles is the buccolabial group. The majority of the mouth muscles are connected by a fibromuscular hub (modiolus) at each angle of the mouth into which these muscles insert. This group is in charge of the shape and movements of the mouth opening (rima oris) and lips (labia oris). The next group is the nasal group that consists of 2 muscles (m. nasalis and m. procerus). Next, the orbital group consists of 3 muscles (m. orbicularis oculi, m. corrugator supercilii, m. depressor supercilii) that are responsible for opening and closing the eyes and moving the eyebrows. The auricular group is a group of 3 fan-shaped muscles (m. auricularis anterior, m. auricularis posterior and m. auricularis superior) that move the auricle to a small extent. The last group is the epicranial group (scalp and neck group) which includes two wide and flat muscles (m. occipitofrontalis and platysma). The m. occipitofrontalis consists of two bellies (occipital and frontal) and acts mainly on the forehead (frons), while the platysma mainly acts on the neck (collum) and lower lip (labium inferius oris).
