Main joints - posterior (Latin)
In the head region, the joint that allows for the greatest range of motion is the articulatio temporomandibularis, featuring the mandibula and the os temporale. The most proximal joint of the lower body is the articulatio sacrolilaca, that connects the sacrum to the ilium. Next, the articulatio coxae connects the os femoris to the os coxae. Found between the thigh and leg is the articulatio genus, an articulation between the os femoris, tibia and patella. Further distally, we have the articulatio talocruralis, that connects the tibia and fibula to the os tali. In the foot region, the main joints are the articulatio subtalaris, connecting the os tali to the calcaneus and os naviculare; and the articulationes interphalangeae pedis, formed between the phalanges pedis.
