Lymphatics of the female breast (Latin)
Lymphatics of the female breast (Latin)
Left female breast (mamma) from an anterior perspective with its lymphatic drainage displayed. Most of the lymph from the breast drains to the nll. axillares. The main group of nodes in that region are the nll. axillares centrales that receive lymph from the nll. axillares anteriores (pectorales), posteriores (subscapulares) and laterales (brachiales or humerales). The nll. axillares centrales drain to the nll. axilares apicales, located superomedially. Efferent vessels from those nodes join together to form the truncus lymphaticus subclavius. On the left side, this trunk may drain into the ductus thoracicus, however it more often empties independently at the left venous angle. The nll. parasternales can also be seen along the left border of the sternum. Those nodes drain lymph mainly from the medial quadrants of the breast. Apart from the nll. axillares and parasternales it is possible to see the nll. paramammarii laterales to the breast.
