Lymph nodes of the small intestine (Latin)
Lymph nodes of the small intestine (Latin)
Overview of the abdomen with the liver (hepar) reflected and stomach (gaster), pancreas and parts of the large intestine (intestinum crassum) removed. The lymph nodes of the intestinum tenues compose one the largest groups in the body, consisting of 100-150 nodes dispersed throughout the mesentery. The nll. juxtaintestinales are located peripherally close to the ileal and jejunal wall. From here, lymph is transported towards the nll. mesenterici superiores via the nll. mesenterici intermedii located alongside the aa. jejunales et ileales. Nll. pancreaticoduodenales drain most of the duodenum. Lymph is then transported to the nll. coeliaci et mesenterici superiores before reaching the cisterna chyli and continuing into the ductus thoracicus.
