Ligaments of the pelvis (Anterior view) (Latin)

The lig. longitudinale anterius travels along the entire length of the columna vertebralis. It extends from the pars basilaris ossis occipitalis to the facies anterior ossis sacri, passing over the art. lumbosacralis in doing so. It functions to prevent hyperextension of the columna vertebralis and reinforces the anterior aspect of the os sacrum.Ligaments of the art. lumbosacralis limit the range of movement at this junction and include the lig. iliolumbale and lig. lumbosacrale laterale. The former is made up of two bands (superior and inferior) originating from the processus transversus of vertebra L5. The superior band extends over the art. sacroiliaca and across the crista iliaca to blend with the fascia thoracolumbalis, while the inferior band crosses the lig. sacroiliacum anterius to insert in the posterior region of the fossa iliaca. Continuous with the lower border of the ligamentum iliolumbale is the lig. lumbosacrale laterale which arises from the lower margin of the processus transversus of vertebra L5 and passes inferolaterally to attach to the ala ossis sacri.The art. sacroiliaca is strengthened by three ligaments, of which only the lig.sacroiliacum anterius is seen in this view. It comprises an anteroinferior thickening of the capsula articularis and connects the facies preauricularis ossis ilii to the third sacral segment (vertebra S3).On the anterior aspect of the pelvis ossea, the symphysis pubica is strengthened by the ligg. pubica (superius, anterius and inferius). Two ligaments crossing the os pubis can equally be seen: the arcus iliopectineus, a thickened band of fascia iliopsoae, running from the spina iliaca anterior superior to the eminentia iliopubica ossis coxae as well as the lig. inguinale extending from the spina iliaca anterior superior to the tuberculum pubicum. Anterior stabilization of the art. sacrococcygea is achieved by the lig. sacrococcygeum anterius, which is a continuation of the lig. longitudinale anterius.
