Dural venous sinuses - Sagittal section (English)
Dural venous sinuses - Sagittal section (English)
The superior sagittal sinus is located superiorly in the midline and oriented in the sagittal plane. It extends from the foramen caecum of the frontal bone to the confluence of sinuses where it merges with three major sinuses including the straight, occipital and transverse sinuses. The inferior sagittal sinus runs parallel to the superior sagittal sinus, along the free border of the falx cerebri. It terminates by merging with the great cerebral vein (of Galen) to form the straight sinus. The right and left transverse sinuses are bilateral structures located in the tentorium cerebelli which drain into the sigmoid sinuses. The sigmoid sinuses then pass through the jugular foramen to drain into the internal jugular vein.
