Blood vessels of the eyeball (Latin)
Blood vessels of the eyeball (Latin)
Transverse section through the eyeball. The main arterial supply arises from the a. ophthalmica, a branch of the a. carotis interna. It gives rise to several ocular branches, such as the a. centralis retinae, rr. musculares (which give rise to the aa. ciliares anteriores), as well as the aa. ciliares posteriores longae et breves. The a. centralis retinae supplies the n. opticus and the innermost layers of the retina. The aa. ciliares supply the choroidea and the outermost layers of the retina. The aa. ciliares anteriores et posteriores longae anastomose to form the circulus arteriosus minor/major iridis. Venous drainage occurs via the venae vorticosae and the vena centralis retinae into the vena ophthalmica superior et inferior.
