Arteries of the small intestine (Latin)
Arteries of the small intestine (Latin)
Overview of the abdomen with the liver reflected, and parts of the stomach (gaster), pancreas and large intestine (intestinum crassum) removed. The proximal part of the duodenum (as far as the papilla major duodeni), is primarily supplied by rr. pancreaticoduodenales superiores of the a. gastroduodenalis (which also provides supply via the a. supraduodenalis, aa. retroduodenales and a. gastroomentalis dextra). There are also small contributions from the a. gastrica dextra, a branch of the a. hepatica propria. The a. mesenterica superior supplies the remainder of the duodenum via the a. pancreaticoduodenalis inferior and a. jejunalis prima. The aa. jejunales and aa. ileales of the a. mesenterica superior form loops known as arcus arteriosi. They give off branches known as vasa recta which supply the jejunum and the ileum. The terminal part of the ileum receives its supply from branches of the a. ileocolica.
